About The Game

The Plot

Sam Haberdash is a fairly average college undergrad, with an undeclared major and an enigmatic roommate. When some weird toughs show up and mistake Sam for her roommate, Sam suddenly finds her life a whole lot more interesting.

Pre-emptively rated PG-13 for language, violence.

Gameplay

A Case of Identity is styled after a classic text adventure, but with pictures. Gameplay is quite simple: Look at the image, and post a command in the comments. Distinguish commands from discussion and commentary by adding a '>' at the beginning. Try to keep actual commands brief, but feel free to clarify your meaning otherwise, if you like.

Commands should generally involve simple, direct verb-noun combinations, e.g., 'take keys' or 'search bag', although full sentences will also be accepted. More ambiguous or large-scale commands will likely be less useful, such as 'take everything' or 'search house'. Multi-step commands -- say, 'go into attic and jump out the window' -- should generally be avoided unless they are very obvious or simple steps.

The command 'Information: (noun)' will provide you with whatever Sam already knows about the given person, place, or thing.

If multiple commands are issued, Cryptix will arbitrarily choose the one(s) she likes best, based on her mood at the time. Intelligent and/or amusing arguments about why yours makes the most sense would up your command's chances.

Multiple commands may be issued at once. Commands issued in the same post will be assumed to be in order, commands issued in multiple posts will be ordered in whatever way amuses Cryptix most.

Schedule

Being as Case exists in order to give Cryptix a cathartic distraction that still engages her brain, Case will update whenever Cryptix has the time and inclination to update it. Hopefully this will be a regular thing, but no promises will be made.

The Game

Case is based off an image-and-text adventure game on Gaiaonline, called 'Gray World' and run by one 'Mister Yah'. Following Mister Yah's example, Cryptix posted 'Case', but eventually wandered off, as Cryptix is wont to do. Then Cryptix decided to give it another try as a sort of stress-relief mechanism, and here we are.

A Case of Identity is drawn using Paint.NET and a Wacom tablet. The art is deliberately done quickly so that Cryptix won't stress out too much over details. Art style may change as Cryptix experiments.
